Ellie’s minoring in Japanese and will graduate in December!

 I took Ellie’s picture when she FaceTimed me the other day!

She took Japanese 1,2,3, and 4 all in one year! She went to Japan for 2 weeks over winter break to visit her boyfriend who is also minoring in Japanese and is studying abroad for a year there. Ellie left for Japan yesterday, May 8, and will return August 6. She will visit James for 3 weeks and then go to an apartment she rented in a different city and begin her study abroad program for the summer. 

Here’s a paper she wrote and memorized and presented it in Japanese from memory to the class. A 2 minute presentation in Japanese. She just blows me away!

「ねこのマージ、おふろに入る」

　私のねこの名前はマージです。マージは三毛（みけ）ねこで、十二歳ぐらいだと思います。マージは可愛くて、あまえんぼうで、私はマージが大好きです。マージはたいていしずかで、何もしませんが、よく食べます。もしマージが話せたら、「おなかがすいているから、何か食べ物をくれない」といつも言っていると思います。マージは毛（け）が長　(なが)くて、ふとっています。今日は、マージが初めておふろに入った時の話をします。

　ある日、私の妹はスライムであそんでいました。あそび終わった（おわった）後（あと）、妹はスライムをかたづけませんでした。その後（あと）、マージが部屋に入ってきて、スライムの上（うえ）にすわりました。マージの毛にスライムがたくさんついて、とれなくなってしまいました。スライムをとるために、両親（りょうしん）はマージをおふろに入れなければいけませんでした。マージはおふろが大きらいなので、にげてしまいました。りょうしんはマージをおふろに入れるのをあきらめました。　　

　つぎの日、私たちはマージをどうぶつ病院に連れて（つれて）行きました。じゅういはマージの毛をそってくれました。マージは毛が長くて、ふとっているから、じゅういは「月にー回（つきにーっかい）、マージをおふろに入れたほうがいい」と言っていました。その日から、私と妹は月に一回家でマージをおふろにいれて、毛を切って（きって）あげます。たいへんです。今でもマージはおふろにはいるのが苦手（にがて）です！いつか、マージが楽しくおふろに入ってくれるといいなと思います。

​My cat’s name is Marge, and she is a long-haired calico cat. I think if she could talk, she would say, “I’m so hungry, do you have any food?” Today, I am going to tell a story about the first time Marge took a bath. One day, my little sister use to play with toy slime and left it out on a table and my cat sat on it. My parents were furious and had to bath her. Marge hated the bath, so they gave up. The next day we had to take Marge to the vet, and she had to shave her. Because Marge’s hair is so long and she’s also fat, the vet gave us advice to start bathing Marge at least once a month. So now, my little sister and I bathe Marge at least once a month and cut her hair. It’s very hard. Nevertheless, Marge does not mind taking baths today! One day, I hope that Marge will have a fun time while taking a bath.
