Update on the kids

Well, it's the last week of school and things are rolling right along... We've got parties coming out our ears. Ellie's end of the year party is tomorrow. They will have field day and then a cookout and afterwards movies, popcorn, and icecream floats! Then our neighborhood will have it's annual end of the year pool party. Emma will have to miss her end of the season soccer party because we'll be leaving for the beach on Saturday. Since Keith can't go with us, he said he'd go to the party and pick up Emma's trophy for her. What a sweet daddy!
Oh, remember when I said Alex didn't want to go to Middle Georgia College after our road trip out there, well he had a change of heart. He decided he did want to go to Middle Georgia College after all. I think he got cold feet the weekend we went for a visit. It's about 2 1/2 hours away from home, he knows no one, and there is nothing at all in Cochran, GA except the college. When we got there, one of the aviation guys got ahold of him and in his zeal, I think, overwhelmed Alex. He was telling him how to climb to the top of the mountain, when Alex is overwhelmed just looking at the first hill. I think too much of the big picture can sometimes paralyze us and get us to give up on something before we even take the first step. I know the guy meant well, but when he started telling Alex how he should get his private pilot's liscense and go to school longer and not just go for ATC, but get into ATC management where he can make the big bucks, Alex looked like he was shrinking as the guys plans for him got bigger. After a few days thinking it over he decided he'd go and just stick with his original plan and then if he loves it and wants to take it further, he always has that option.
Today I was on the phone for a while with mom. When I hung up, I came in the kitchen and the 2 baskets of laundry I had sitting on the floor were all folded and divided up into neat little piles. Daddy's pile, mommy's pile, Ellie's pile, and Emma's pile. Emma did it again! She is the best little folder and loves to do it. She folds better than her brothers! She claims that Nick taught her. This morning she was singing with one of her favorite cartoons: Ooomy Zooomy. She sang: I can show you anything (du du du) on my belly, belly, belly screen (du du du)... She knows every word and every motion. It's so funny to hear her talk to the people on TV. I wonder if she really thinks they're asking her all those questions. I remember when I was little, wanting to open the radio and see the little people inside that were talking. I took her to the doctor yesterday to get her shots so she can start pre-k in the fall. She got 5! OUCH! When the doctor was doing her check up, he said he needed to quickly check her privates. So I told Emma what he was going to do and that it was ok because mommy was here and he was a doctor. So he peeked down her panties and then said, Ok everything's fine. Then he was writing on his chart and she sat up, lifted up the paper gown and pulled open her panties and tried to see what he was checking out. I said, don't worry, it's all still there. The doctor tried not to laugh, but we couldn't help it, we started cracking up.
Drew is still training at Home Depot and is anxious to get it over with and start the real work. He'll be stocking and is really excited about it. There are not many job openings out there right now. He's very fortunate to get this one. We're proud of him!
Ellie's happy and sad about school being out tomorrow. She really loves school. I was reading in her journal that she brought home and she wrote about Alison (her friend that moved away) almost every day this year. Poor thing, she really misses her. Alison is really more like a sister to her than a friend. They came home from China within 4 months of each other and lived down the street from each other until this year. The Grimm's are actually in the process of adopting again. They were just pre approved for a little 6 year old girl and will be going to China probably this year around December. We are so excited for them!
Tyler made 4 B's in all his classes this semester. Not bad for being a newlywed, working, and taking a full load. Him and Emily are growing tons. I'm so proud of all the children!!!

Visit to Middle Georgia College

Well, we spent our Saturday touring around Middle Georgia campus in Cochran, GA. The campus was beautiful, but it's sort of in the middle of nowhere. There is really nothing in that town except the college. It's about 2 1/2 hours from Athens. It's supposed to be one of the top colleges for ATC, mainly because it's one of the 2 colleges in the U.S. with a functioning air traffic control tower on their campus. We had a great time while we were there, but when we got home, Alex said... "I'm not so sure that's where I want to go to school or what I want to major in." Keith and I agreed that the trip was a success then. We don't want our kids to do what they feel is expected of them, we want them to listen to their hearts and follow that. I think it's hard at that age to know what you want to do, but part of figuring that out is crossing off what you know you don't want to do.
