What a rollercoaster ride this week has been! The pain in the neck of shopping for a new car. The joy of finally finding exactly what we want and it's in our price range! The hassle of the paperwork. The excitement of trading in our old car and driving our new car home! The horrifying experience of Keith being airborne and flying into a ditch. The relief and gratitude that he is ok! The bummed feeling that our new car is totaled. Then getting the devastating news from our insurance company that the car is NOT does not have full coverage because we only had liability on our other cars. Several days of disbelief, anger, and tears... Then finally the acceptance that life throws us all curve balls from time to time and we need to let go and let God.
Keith and I had the car looked at by a mechanic to see if it was a total loss or salvageable. He quoted us 7,500-8,000. Yes, it sucks, but at least not as much as if it were completely totaled. We asked the mechanic for an itemized bill because we didn't want any surprises and we also wanted to take it to another mechanic to see if that was fair or if they could do better. He gave us an itemized bill that totaled 10,500. He said, it was more than he originally thought. Thank goodness we asked for an itemized bill because that would have been a huge surprise!
So now for the unbelievably good news... The insurance adjuster, Lani, called us last night and said that she couldn't stop thinking about us all weekend. So she started digging through the paperwork and reading all the tiny fine print and sifting through all the legal jargon and found a clause that mentioned something about having a 4 day window to get full get full coverage. Which makes sense because most people buy a car over the weekend when the insurance office is closed... or if you buy it on the weekday, by the time you fill out the paperwork, it's after 5:00 and the insurance office is closed. She said she was able to get us full coverage on the vehicle and apologized for putting us through a week of hell.
I'm so thankful that God kept nudging Lani's heart and that she listened and took a deeper look into our coverage. It's scary to think of how much money people pour into having insurance and then aren't covered because of a technicality or because the claims adjuster made a mistake. That would have been a devastating loss financially for our family!
Life is like a river. It flows into a lot of nooks and crannies that you never expect, but in the end, it is still taking us toward the big ocean if we just go with the flow and don't fight the current by trusting and accepting that in all things, God is working for our good!
