After the "Over the Edge" event, dad and I headed over to the Bell's house for the "2nd annual Bell Olympics"! It started a 12:00, but we didn't get there until 2:00. Tonya Bell is one of my tennis friends. Her son, Matt puts together the "Bell olympics" and invites all his tennis and frat buddies. Tonya, and her husband Jeff, like to compete in the games too, so they also invite a couple of their friends. Last year I was Tonya's partner and asked if I could bring along Shannon to be my "drinker", lol.
This year however, Shannon couldn't come because she was out of town. It all worked out though because I was going to be late anyway because of the children first event that morning and couldn't get there until 2:00. So Tonya had a partner from 12-2, then I came at 2:00 and relieved her. Thankfully I missed the beer chugging contest, beer pong, cup flip, and mini tennis, lol. I did have one drinking game I played... we had to chug 1/2 a beer and then however many seconds it took to chug it (4 seconds for me) we'd have to spin around 4 times with our head on the bat and then stand up and try to swing and hit a ball being tossed to us. Whoever hit it the farthest, won. Most people completely missed it! The other games I played weren't drinking games... we had to do free throws with the basketball, frisbee toss, corn hole, and hooker (a ring toss game). So glad my dad got to go. He is so social and everyone always loves him! He really enjoyed watching all the events! Every time I got a ball in a hoop, a beanbag in a hole, or a ring on a hook, I'd look and dad and say, "Hey dad, did you see me?" Lol, does anyone every really outgrow that?!?
The Bell's place is just beautiful... they have a gorgeous pool with a waterfall and jacuzzi, a huge outdoor kitchen and fireplace, a lake filled with catfish, and tennis courts. There house sits on their 140 acres of land! And they are such gracious hosts and hostesses!!!
The staff and board of Children First have been having been planning this huge event since January. It's their biggest fundraiser of the year. We raised over $21,000.00 this year by having people get sponsored for going "Over the Edge" of the Sparc building in Athens. Keith was my hero and went over! He was so brave and looked like a pro repelling down the side of the building. Our whole family was their to cheer him on, including poppy! Alex played some covers and originals and he got another band to also play some live music for the event.
There was face painting and a jumpy house for the kids, which Alex, Drew, Ellie, and Emma took full advantage of as soon as the place was clearing out and there were no more little kids jumping in it:) There was lots of food... burgers cooking on the grill, pizza, pulled pork BBQ sandwiches, flavored ice, popcorn, sweets... The event was a huge success!
