Fall Break 2012

We usually spend part of our fall break in Highlands, NC.  Last year we were able to meet the Grimm's up there. The weather is always so crisp and cool in Highlands this time of year and the leaves are bursting with color. This year it didn't work out for us to go, so we thought of some other ways to make it special. On Wednesday, after school, we made "Scary Tarts". Then Thursday night, Drew and the girls (and a few of their friends in the neighborhood) roasted  marshmallows around the fire-pit while Keith and I went out to dinner. Friday night I took the girls to get a bite to eat and to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid 3. (They've read all the books!) On Saturday morning, Keith made me breakfast in bed! What a treat! Then we cleaned house all day and he changed the headlights on my car. Later, Laurel and Haley came over to spend the night. We plugged in the lights and put the speaker outside and served the boys and their girlfriends dinner out on the deck. We thought we'd give them a little time together before Ellie and Emma stole the girls away. Alex made muffins for everyone this morning and then Keith and the kids played ball in the front yard. Alex and Haley had to go to work, so Laurel took Ellie and Emma to see another movie... Brave. That gave me a little more time to work on the games I volunteered to put together for the neighborhood Halloween Carnival at the end of the month (a scavenger hunt for 4th grade and up and mummy bowling). This afternoon, Keith, Alex, and Drew watched the Falcon's game, while Laurel and Haley played Uno with the girls. Tyler and Emily are big Falcon's fans. Early this morning the "Caw"text messages began between Tyler and Keith, Alex, and Drew. Tonight, to finish off our Fall Break weekend, I tried a new recipe...  Teriyaki, BBQ, and Hot Wings! YUM! The gang all gave them a thumbs up!
